According to an update from the International Energy Agency, global coal demand will reach a historic high of approximately 8.8 billion tons in 2024, an increase of 1.5% compared to 2023. This is due to consumption growth in China, India, Indonesia, and other emerging economies offsetting declines in developed economies in Europe, North America, and Northeast Asia. The potential structural driving factors for global coal use remain largely unchanged. Therefore, it is expected that global coal demand will slightly increase in 2025, followed by a slight decrease in 2026, making demand slightly lower than the level in 2024.
